MSURJ’s 2014-2015 Editorial Board

Popularized by the famous French writer Marcel Proust, the Proust questionnaire delves deep into the mind of the responder, touching on topics ranging from favourite books to deepest regrets. Its ability to connect the reader to the writer in a few short phrases is unparalleled, and its questions are timeless. To introduce MSURJ’s 2014-2015 Board of Editors, we have provided their answers below.

Ariana Armani, U2 Computer Science and Biology

 What is your idea of perfect happiness? Being in a room with kittens, babies, and puppies. 

What is your most marked characteristic? My minnie mouse voice and my saaaasssssssssssss.

Who are your favourite heroes of fiction? Will Hunting (Good Will Hunting), Edward Scissorhands.

What do you consider the most overrated virtue? Abstinence.

If not yourself, who would you be? NASA engineer. they create magic.  


Meng Zhang, U2 Pharmacology

 What is your idea of perfect happiness? Having achieved the goals you have set yourself while being surrounded by those that love. Waking up in the morning to a sunny day with clear blue skies also makes me really happy. Red Starbucks cups as well.

What is your favourite journey? My 6 months of studying and travelling in South East Asia and Australia.

What is your favourite occupation? Reading novels curled up on my bed under the sun shining through the windows while sipping on a cup of rose tea. 


Adam Pietrobon, U2 Honours Biochemistry

 What is your idea of perfect happiness? A room full of Nutella sandwiches.

What is your most marked characteristic? I can fit my whole fist in my mouth.

What is your greatest fear? A world without Nutella.

What do you consider your greatest achievement? Winning a sushi eating competition.


Deborah Baremberg, U3 Cognitive Science

 What is your idea of perfect happiness? Impossible to achieve. But an all-expense paid trip around the world (preferably with people of your choice) comes pretty close.

What is your most marked characteristic? I’m stuck on interpreting “marked” as “full of marks”. So, my freckles?

What is your greatest fear? The inexorable passage of time. Also, small spaces.

What do you consider the most overrated virtue? Selflessness.

What is your favourite journey? The ten-meter stagger from the front door to the bed when returning home after a long day.


Aagnik Pant, U0 Electrical Engineering

What is your idea of perfect happiness?  Free sushi + unlimited internet bandwidth.

What is your most marked characteristic?  My glasses – I’ve had glasses since I was four. Also, I’m unrecognizable without them.

What is your greatest fear?  Snakes, spiders, and missed opportunities. Also, bird poop.

What is your favorite journey? The part when it gets flat when walking up the hill from main campus to rez.

Which word or phrase do you most overuse? Red apples in Mandarin – no, I don’t speak Mandarin. Ni chi hong ping guo ma?


Lavinia Lee, U2 Anatomy and Cell Biology 

What is your greatest fear? Losing the ability to form complex thoughts and being aware of the same; alternatively, the scenario in Johnny Got His Gun is pretty horrifying too.

What do you consider the most overrated virtue? Charity (in the theological sense).

What is your favorite journey? My family’s home in Queens to Manhattan. Sometimes back.

What word or phrase do you most overuse? Probably “salient.”


Lindsay Brabant, U2 Anatomy and Cell Biology 

What is your idea of perfect happiness? Charlie Brown taught me that happiness is a warm puppy.

What is your most marked characteristic? An unreasonable amount of hair.

What is your greatest fear? Not being able to breathe.

Who are your favourite heroes of fiction? Penelope from The Odyssey and Esther Greenwood.

What do you consider the most overrated virtue? Modesty.


Blair Jia, U3 Quantitative Biology 

What is your most marked characteristic? I have a penchant for cheese.

What is your greatest fear? PA doubling their prices.

What do you consider your greatest achievement? Running to the end of the Lachine Canal and back.

Which living person do you most admire? Among scientists, probably Feng Zhang.

What is your most treasured possession? A Japanese mug I’ve had since I was five!

What is your favourite occupation? Banana-eating-in-chief.


Kevin Liang, U3 Neuroscience

What is your idea of perfect happiness? The walk home after your last final.

What is your most treasured possession? My Google Drive.


Helen Lai, U1 Anatomy and Cell Biology 

What is your most marked characteristic? Vague expression of scepticism.

What is your greatest fear? Ghosts, figurative. Also claymation movies.

What is your favourite journey? The return, for conflicting reasons. It’s always sad, but always comforting.

What is your most treasured possession? My stuffed toy skunk.

If not yourself, who would you be? Some sort of marsupial, probably (oddly nocturnal with a great appreciation for jacket pockets).


Jasmine Li-Brubacher, U2 Biochemistry

What is your idea of perfect happiness? Laughing with people you love. or chocolate. Chocolate is good too.

What is your most marked characteristic? Crazy hair.

What is your greatest fear? Instability – the bad kind.

Who are your favourite heroes of fiction? Tintin!!!

What is your most treasured possession? My camera and the pictures that I’ve taken with it.

What is your idea of perfect happiness? Watching re-runs of The Office and getting a full night of sleep.

What is your greatest fear? Spiders…and carnivorous insects.

What is your current state of mind? Content but sleep-deprived.

What is your most treasured possession? All of the files on my computer and hard drives.

Where would you like to live? Switzerland

What is your idea of perfect happiness? Living in a little apartment in a great city with a job that I love and people that make me laugh.

What is your greatest fear? Room 101.

Who are your favourite heroes of fiction? Harry Potter ϟ and Catherine Earnshaw.

What is your favourite journey? Canoeing across the lake at my family’s cottage.

What is your most treasured possession? My shoes.

What is your current state of mind? Finding the fun in being a little lost.

What is your most marked characteristic? Apparently, as I have been told, I am very neutral…

What do you consider the most overrated virtue? Intelligence.

What is your current state of mind? Making figures for publications is no fun.

Where would you like to live? Manhattan.


Tatiana Sanchez, U2 Psychology 

What is your most marked characteristic? Physically I’ve been told I have very big eyes, personality-wise I would say it’s my perfected routine of avoiding questions I don’t want to answer. 

What is your current state of mind? A little tired, a little buzzed on coffee, and very excited for the holidays. 

What is your most treasured possession? I’ve obsessively collected all my birthday cards and Christmas cards over the last 10 years. 

What is your favourite occupation? Reading poetry. In bed, on the bus, while walking, while eating etc. 

What is your favourite journey? Driving home late at night in the rain. Everything looks slick and shiny and dark and perfect.
